For awareness! On April 28, 2023, General Mills – manufacturer of Gold Medal Flour, announced a nationwide voluntary recall of its product, Gold Medal Unbleached and Bleached All Purpose Flour. The two-, five- and ten-pound bags (all other types of Gold Medal Flour are not affected by this recall) with a “better used by” date of March 27, 2024, and March 28, 2024. The reason is that during their sampling of a 5-Pound bag, they discovered a potential presence of Salmonella Infantis.
Salmonella Infantis is a type of bacteria that is deadly to at-risk individuals and healthy individuals may experience symptoms such as nausea, diarrhea, fever, and abdominal pains. Symptoms start within six hours to six days after infection and last four to seven days. Any consumers concerned and or experiencing the aforementioned symptoms above should immediately contact a physician. This bacteria is killed by heat, through baking, frying, sautĂ©ing, or boiling products made with flour but still don’t take the risk and take precautions and participate in the recall. Additionally, refrain from consuming raw products made with flour.
