Hillshire Farm is recalling over 15,800 Pounds of their smoked sausage because they may have been contaminated with bone fragments. On September 2nd the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) made the announcement after receiving consumer complaints about the fragments in the product.
The recalled products are 14-ounce cryovac packages of “Hillshire Farm Smoked Sausage” made with pork, turkey, and beef. They were produced on June 14th and have an expiration date of November 11 printed on the front of the package. The affected packages have been shipped to retail stores in California, Maryland, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.

To specifically identify the packages look for a lot of code in the form of establishment number, line number, and production in hours: minutes: seconds reading “EST. 756A 20 19:00:00 through 21:59:59 and EST. 756A 21 19:00:00 through 21:59:59.
Although there has only been one reported case of an oral injury, the FSIS is urging anyone who has purchased the recalled sausage to throw it away or return it to the store where they bought it. Tyson Foods is also urging consumers to cut the UPC and date code from the packaging, discard the product, and text or call the customer care line at 1-855-382-3101.
