Have you ever admired the beauty of a stained glass window? The way the colorful light reflects through the glass and projects its beauty onto an opposing wall or area? I have a simple craft idea that you and your family can partake in this Spring that brings together good times and colorful window displays. Fake or not, these are fun to make.
These kid-friendly faux stained glass window hangings are a breeze to create. You’ll want to continue doing more and more for all areas of the house. The craft items needed are:
- scissors
- pencil or pen
- black construction paper
- clear tape or clear contact paper
- colored tissue paper
The steps are pretty basic and adults just need to help with the cutting part for smaller children
- Fold the paper in half from left to right.
- Use a pencil to draw half of a heart from the upper top, rounded towards the bottom.
- Cut the heart out.
- Draw shapes like circles, small hearts, etc.. on the half heart and then cut those out.
- Once you open it up, cut out and attach the colored tissue paper to the back of the black construction paper, with tape.
- Tape it to the window and watch as the sun shines through it.
You can make these for just about any holiday and any event. You can also make lovely stained glass jars! All you need are a few clear glass jars, like baby food Jars to get started
- Clear glass jars, no lids
- White Glue thinned with a small amount of water*
- Paint Brush
- Pieces of cut tissues paper
Put a thin layer of glue over a portion of the outside of the jar. Then carefully lay pieces of tissue paper in the glue. Use the end of the brush to help get out any air bubbles. Continue the process until the jar is covered with tissue paper. Allow the jar to dry. Place a small tea light in the jar and light. Now you have a very pretty stained glass votive!
