Roblox has agreed to pay $10 million to settle a class action lawsuit that accused the popular online gaming platform of taking advantage of children. The lawsuit claimed that Roblox allowed children to make excessive purchases and then deleted related content to cover it up.
If you had a Roblox account before May 11th, 2023, and your content was moderated and removed by Roblox, you may be eligible to benefit from this settlement. The lawsuit alleged that parents were unable to seek refunds for the deleted content.
Roblox, with its 66.1 million daily active users as of March 31st, 2023, has agreed to the settlement without admitting any wrongdoing.
Here’s what you need to know about claiming your settlement:
- Class members can receive a share of the net settlement fund, with the exact amount depending on how much they spent on Roblox items.
- If your settlement share is more than $10, you can choose to receive a cash payment. Otherwise, you’ll receive your share as a Roblox account credit.
- The deadline to exclude yourself from the settlement or raise objections is August 10th, 2023.
- The final approval hearing for the settlement will take place on September 27th, 2023
To receive a cash payment, you must submit a valid claim from here before August 10th, 2023. However, if you prefer to receive a Roblox credit instead of cash, no claim is necessary.
Remember, this settlement is for individuals who had a Roblox account before May 11th, 2023, and whose content was moderated and removed by Roblox.
